Polygon has deployed the token contracts for its new POL token on Ethereum, replacing the network’s current MATIC token. POL is expected to play a critical role in the network’s wider upgrade and will allow users to stake their holdings across as many compatible chains as they wish, earning protocol rewards and transaction fees on each staked chain. Polygon has also hinted at moving its PoS chain to a pure-play zkRollup as well as introducing a new interoperability standard for its various chains. This is good news for the network and its users, as the new token and features will help to further secure the network.
