Huawei debuted its new artificial intelligence (AI) storage model, the OceanStor A310, at GITEX GLOBAL 2023 last week, attempting to address certain industry challenges surrounding large model applications. The OceanStor A310 is designed for the era of large AI models and provides a storage solution for basic model training, industry model training, and inference in segmented scenario models. It is faster than IBM’s ESS 3500 and offers 400GBps sequential read bandwidth and 208GBps write bandwidth. It supports up to 96 NVMe SSDs, processors, and a memory cache, and can be clustered up to 4,096 A310’s. Huawei’s effort into AI storage solutions is attempting to challenge other suppliers and improve the efficiency of AI model training. However, US sanctions on Huawei adds a layer of complexity.
